College education is define as continuing education after high school at a Community College or at a University. In our society today, there is a big debate on rather college education is worth the financial investment. Some people have a debate that college is worth the financial investment that most students must incur and some people believe that education is a waste of time and money. However, I believe one side has greater benefits then the other.
In the beginning of my college year at Western Kentucky University, I was very scared and confused of going into the unknown. I thought about many negative things, such as ending up with a huge debt after graduation with no job. Furthermore, I decided to continue college anyways and face the future conscious. During my third semester in school, I worked in the airport in which I met many intelligent and successful people with college degrees who inspire me to be very determine on getting a college education. Therefore, college education is worth the financial investment that most students must incur because the benefits of gaining knowledge of the world, a better pay job and many other great things are greater than not getting a college education. Moreover, from time after time we have seen great men in history such as John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King and Aristotle talk about the importance of education. According to Katharine Hansen, “education is the essence of the democratic ideals that elevated the United States from a backward land of rebellious colonists to the greatest, most spirited, powerful and successful nation in the world.” College education teaches people how the economy works, how to critical think, how politics works and the advance of technology. Generally speaking, the knowledge of college education is worth the financial investment because everything in the world advance. Second, with college education one is eventually able to get a better paying job with little or no hard labor. According to Jaison R Abel and Richard Deitz “Those with a college degree are far greater than average wages for those with only a high school diploma. In the period between 1970 and 2013 as a whole, those with a bachelor’s degree earned about $64,000 per year and those with an associate’s degree earned about $50,000 per year, while those with a high school diploma earned only 41,000 per year.” Likewise, people with college education still make more money than those without a college degree. In addition, most people without a college education tend to work jobs that involve hard labor such as cashiering, truck driving and factory jobs that requires standing up all through 8 hour shift and lifting up heavy stuff or doing something that can effect one’s health. Ultimately, college education gets most people a better paying job with great benefits of sitting down at work or traveling across the world. Third, most people with college education are able to invest and influence their generation for a better future and not live on minimum wage jobs. According to Catherine Rampell, “without a college degree, children born to parents in the bottom income quintile have a 45 percent chance of remaining there as adults. With a degree, they have less than a 20 percent chance of staying in the bottom quintile of the income distribution.” Most parents with college education are able to build a foundation for their children by encouraging them to get a college degree and even connect them to a job after graduation. Further, most parents with college education are able to save for tuitions many years ahead for their children to go school and they are able to live valuable things behind that their children may benefit on when they die. Definitely, college education is something one can pass on to their children for a better life.
