In the satirized article The Onion, the author used very humorously and big meaningless vocabulary to describe how companies market their products and do almost anything in order to attract consumers. It used hyperbole, sarcasm and metaphors to satirize the advertisements of products. The article criticized the cliche technique companies use to market their products to consumers. Advertisers always seem to make unbelievable claims, use mendacious reviews from mendacious consumers and believe people to be gullible. Advertising companies should really market products differently. The satirized text examined well how advertisers say deranged claims. They utilize methods and hype the product so customers buy it. It was stated that, “I twisted my ankle something awful a few months ago, and the pain was so bad I could barely walk a single step, but after wearing Magnasoles for seven weeks, I've noticed significant decrease in pain.” It took almost 2 months for the ‘customers’ ankle to heal, however it stated that Magnasoles healed the ankle. After seven weeks its clear that the product didn’t help with the healing process. The article mocked products that are advertised as the one and …show more content…
This creates an emotional response because they are familiar with the person, then making the product more attractive to the customer. The Onion stated, “the principles of Terranometry state that the Earth resonates on very precise frequency, which it imparts in the surface it touches, said Dr. Wayne Frankel… ” The claim makes no sense but it sounds nice, especially since a doctor stated it. It was also said by the author, “developed especially for Integrated Products by some of the nation’s top pseudoscientists.” For those that don’t know what the words stated mean they could have possibly believed it.
