Have you ever been forced to do something that you feel is unnecessary? The “One-and-Done” rule is a rule created by the National Basketball Association stating that a player is not aloud signing with the NBA until the age of 19. This means that the players must complete one year of college basketball before entering the draft. I, along with many others, believe that the “One-and-Done” rule should be abolished because it creates injury risk for players, it wastes the players time, and it has slowly ruined college basketball. One reason that this rule should be abolished is the fact that this extra year the players must spend in college is just an extra year to get injured. If a player is injured bad enough it could mean the end of their career …show more content…
Many current NBA players feel as if their on year was a waste of time including Philadelphia 76s, guard, J.J. Redick who stated, “If you're good enough to play, then you should be in the NBA. You should play. That's why I always argue there shouldn't be an age limit. Guys should be able to come out of high school, not spend a year in college". These players are being forced to spend a whole year of their life focusing on something that has no benefit to them. If a player is physically ready and talented enough to play in the NBA they should not be forced to play at the collegiate level. They are not going to stay to finish their degrees and they are not getting paid for playing either. If players were allowed to go into the NBA out of high school instead of going to college for a year, they could have been making seven figures by the time they would have been just declaring for the draft. Philadelphia 76s guard, Ben Simmons, stated in his documentary about the topic, “The NCAA is really f---ed up. Everybody's making money except the players. We're the ones waking up early as hell to be the best teams and do everything they want us to do and then the players get nothing. They say education, but if I'm there for a year, I can't get much
