Have you ever thought about how NFL or NBA players can get millions from playing? But, when you think about the NCAA their isn’t much talk about money except having big deals with television networks such as ESPN, NBC, Fox, etc. That’s because the college athletes don’t get paid at all! That should change because, A. they work more hours than the average American does (per week), B. the NCAA is a 1 trillion dollar industry, and C. missing classes affects the value of the educaton.
According to Marc Edelman at Forbes “The average American works 40.0 hours a week, but the average D1 football player puts in 43.3 hours a week!” That’s 3.3 hours more than an average American, and they don’t even get paid! An average athlete’s schedule can look like this : a player will wake up before classes, get a lift or conditioning session in, go to class until 3 or 4 p.m., go to practice, go to the mandatory study hall, and then finish homework or study for a test. You have to admit that is a really busy schedule. And the only time you could work during it is late at night after studying. If an athlete were to take the late job then the late schedule could affect the athlete’s sleep and then sleep could directly affect the athlete’s grades. …show more content…
For example some of the best players can rake in about $200,000 and get paid nothing of it. That just isn’t right to do that because they are out there sacrificing their bodies for their school, and then they don’t get a share of the revenue they work for. While on the other hand some coaches can get paid from nearly a million dollars, to nearly 2 million dollars. Sure the coaches are the main thing that makes a team good, but you need players to make up a team and with no players you are just wasting money on a coach that isn’t
