Should College Athletes Be Paid Essay

A question that is often asked is “Should college athletes be paid for playing their sport?” The answer to this question is no, but technically they are already being paid. College athletes are being paid by their scholarships. This might not seem like a payment, but actually it is a great one. The scholarships student athletes get pay for their college education, usually their dorm, and it also can pay for their meals. This is a large payment for student athletes.
Students and people may argue that scholarships don’t count as payment of athletes because the athlete can’t take the money and pay for things such as a phone, shoes, or clothes.
The scholarship is a payment to the students because this provides them with the ability to get a

People may also argue the fact that these student athletes can and probably will get hurt playing their sport and they should get paid. This is a terrible argument because the student is playing the sport at their own risk and they know this. Just because a student athlete gets injured is no reason to start paying them money. When the athlete takes the scholarship to play the sport they know that they are at risk of injury. If the athlete does get hurt it is not the colleges’ or the
NCAA’s responsibility to begin paying the athlete money.
Even though people argue that college athletes should get paid money it will most likely never happen because of many reasons. One main reason is that if college athletes begin getting paid this will destroy something that is an honorable quality of many athletes and it is that they play for the love of their sport. College athletes should not begin getting paid because this will make more people play because they want to have a payday. This would be terrible because people and students need to play because they love their sport and they want to continue playing it, not because they will get a paycheck for playing it.
Overall, college athletes should not get paid for playing their sport. They shouldn’t

This is crazy because all these players get so many extra things provided to them already so why should they need to get paid. If they want to get paid they should work hard and make it to the pros. If the athletes that play college sports were to get paid those schools would lose a lot of money because it would be way too expensive to pay all of these athletes. You have to keep in mind that they already have to pay the coaches and teachers let alone athletes. The athletes should not be asking for money from the NCAA and rather their parents. There are some cases in which an athlete’s family does not have the finances to be able to provide their child with the things they might need but these athletes can sacrifice an $8 meal at McDonalds and they can just go to the school cafeteria to eat a meal instead.
