The United States of America can be considered a nation of immigrants, where the door is open for everyone; however, some people wish to close the door. Donald Trump, a candidate to become president, is an example of a person who wish to close the door. He gave a speech in Phoenix, Arizona claiming that illegal immigrants are causing problems in the country. The speech was benefitting his campaign in gaining votes, rallying the public for support, and discouraging the American public to not vote for his opponent, Hillary Clinton. Trump supported his claim of the United States having an illegal immigration problem by using ethos and pathos in his speech; however, his speech contain fallacies. At the beginning of the speech, Trump said, “Instead, I’m going to deliver a detailed policy address on one of the greatest challenges facing our country today, [is] illegal immigration,” stating the speech will be detailed, and about the people and not himself. Trump used the tactics of informing people how he will make America a better place for American and striking fear of what will happen if he is not elected as president. He supported his claim by mentioning what the illegal immigrants’ action and presence had done to the American people and it economy. Stories of heartbreaking events were told to move the heart of the American public. Trump often included how he have the concern of the American people in his mind.
