The Importance Of My Shared Reading / Literacy Enhancement Internship

The continuation of my shared reading /literacy enhancement internship is moving toward my ideal outcome with very minimal improvising. During the past two weeks, I participated in my second parent informational session with the same set of parents with two new additions to explain what the children and I had been working on since the start of the program. The parent informational session took place on March 6, 2016 comprised of seven parents out of the 16 that was invited. The informational session lasted approximately 45 minutes from start to finish. The informational session consisted of photos, activities, shared resources for parents and an actual visual of two willing parents demonstrating the shared reading activities that took place in their home. Towards the closing of the session, I provided information consisted of reading activities families can engage in with their children at home. I also, provided activities that can be utilized during car rides to and from places that can focus on letter sounds and eye spy games to enhance phonemic awareness. Parents were given the opportunity to ask questions on shared reading and literacy enhancements for their preschool children entering kindergarten. My two three year old parents wanted support on how to encourage the love for books during bed time routines. I enjoyed the intriguing dialog about shared reading activities and received an out pour of interest in building literacy awareness in homes with young children.…
