From my experience, children are capable of learning advanced concepts at an early age and although it is vital to select content that matches the cognitive capacities of students, undoubtedly students can benefit from more in depth material. My sons were taking high school classes starting in 6th grade. By the time my son went to high school, he had 6 high school honors classes. Algebra I, Algebra II, World History, Physical Science, Geometry, and American History. We obtained special permission from for one of my sons to sign up for an 11th grade American History Honors class, since he was still in 7th grade. Both of my sons earned an A in every upper level class they took. Although programs in the public and private schools allow students to sign up for upper level classes while in middle school, there are a number of classes that they not are allowed to attend. My field work experience had started in the preschool and where I have done the majority of my observations thus far. In the preschool I was beginning to understand how the different of components of the preschool all had concepts of phycology through all aspects of the classroom. During my time I saw how Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, how students handled new information through various methods, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective are incorporated through different sections of the classroom. The classroom was based that learning should not be a structured experience, but learning should be developed through play and exploration.…

Each year students enter my room with little to no experience in a large group settings. For this reason, I am always thinking about the appropriate learning development for each of my students and build lessons for each of their needs. Although I teach preschool currently I believe that no matter the grade level a teacher teaches they must always think about the appropriate developmental teaching practices that need to be embedded in their classroom (OES 1). Part of implementing developmentally appropriate teaching practices into my classroom is first understanding how my students learn and develop (OES 1.1). Research has shown that young children learn best through play situations.…

On September 16th, 2015 I went to Chippewa Elementary School in Holtsville, New York. I made an observation at the beginning of the day in Mrs. Carey’s Kindergarten class. The purpose of this observation is to observe and evaluate the human matters of sentiments, behaviors, standards and relationships between teachers and students within the classroom. When I first walk into the classroom it felt dreary due to the whole classroom having dark stained wood paneling on all walls, dark wooden tables and desks. The teacher tried to brighten up with classroom by displaying photos of the children’s family members, birthday calendar displaying all the children’s upcoming birthdays, word wall, student’s names, along with educational posters and art…

In Class Lesson #2 Through teaching my two whole group comprehension lessons, I believe that I have gained a better understanding as to what the reality of being a teacher is like. I believe that as a teacher, I have devoted myself to lifelong learning and through completion of my first comprehension lesson, I designed and taught a second comprehension lesson that was built completely upon prior learning. With that being said, throughout this experience, I have come across many strengths and weaknesses that I have used to my advantage. To begin, in my first comprehension lesson that I taught on November 13th to 22 1st graders, I chose the content standards RL.1.2 – Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson and RL 1.3 – describe characters, setting, and major events in a story, using key detail. Students were previously introduced to the standard and I read a book that related to what they were already…
