Minorities in the workplace are still slender in today’s society. When I refer to minorities I am speaking on the Blacks and Hispanics. Though Black and Hispanics earn their degrees from top universities in computer science and computer engineering graduates at twice the rate that leading technology companies hire them, they still aren’t getting the jobs they deserve. Many technology companies blame the lack of minority job applicants for the severe shortage of the minorities. Although technology has become a major engine of economic growth in the U.S. economy, technology companies are under growing pressure to diversify their workforces. The employees now are predominantly Asian, Caucasian, and male; leaving Hispanics and African Americans out of the growth process within the technology field. Today many people are pushing for females to be involved in the IT field. Even though the minorities are continuously encouraged to go after a STEM majors and jobs even thou many outstanding candidates get over looked because of the color of their skin or gender. Many past successful African American inventors have motivated others to push for their dreams and goals regardless of their trials and tribulations. As time progresses we hope that time will change its unfortunate that the minorities must go far and beyond an average candidate to selected. The statistics are very slowly improving over time but it honestly shouldn’t be this way. We as a society should be at the point where we should choose purely the best candidate to do the job. With technology increasing and the raise for IT jobs steadily increasing prejudging and discrimination should be abolished. As long as African Americans, Hispanics, and females are over looked they will always miss out on extraordinary skills and
