“No two leaves are alike and yet there is no antagonism between them or between the branches on which they grow.” That quote was taken from a wise man named M.K Gandhi. A person should be judged by their character not by their differences. Equality begins when everyone has the opportunity to succeed. If you have a dream you go catch it, you can't just watch it go by. These ideas contribute to a complex question, Should there be laws on companies to hire a certain percentage of African Americans? If companies hired a certain percentage of African American not because of their character, ambition, or intelligence but because it's mandatory, their efforts and character wouldn't count. There would be no value in the hard work or accomplishments made because they are hired automatically. Earned achievements would go to waste if the laws were to be in effect. It's reverse discrimination for companies to hire a certain percentage of African Americans. It would be unfair to not be considered for a job because the company needs to hire African Americans to achieve diversity. Now many students are under pressure to succeed and be the best and by giving black students unfair advantages the hard work wouldn't matter. It divides society more than it is now. It's the opposite of what people are trying to accomplish which is unity and fairness.The advantages given to people because they are born into a race is absolutely unfair. The advantage increases racial tension. For example, tension would be created if races besides African Americans weren't hired to make space for them to be hired. Lastly,more people would think that African Americans have their job out of the law that states the company needs to hire a certain percentage of African Americans.
