Meditation is one of few practices today, that helps an individual focus their minds on a particular object, thought or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. Meditation is used to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and pain. There is many ways to do it but many people do it sitting and closing their eyes in a quiet environment. Athletes all over the world should perform meditation whether it be before a practice or the biggest game of their career because there is so many thoughts on your mind that could control your actions during that time. What if I mess up? What if I disappoint my coach? How will the crowd react if I fail? All questions confusing an athletes brain as they lace up their cleats and take the field. …show more content…
To name a few, his number one reason was that it helps you focus, to help if you win or lose a game. If you are up to bat with two strikes , and you are looking for your girlfriend in the stands while the pitcher is throwing the ball you are not focused. The end result will not be good, most likely a strikeout. Meditation has been shown to increase states of focus within the brain. Another reason is that it helps deal with fear because when fear takes over our minds it can lead to many errors in your event. This too, meditation has been shown to help calm the fear center of the brain, the amygdala. Meditation could be that extra edge that helps you win the game-winning point or helps you go the extra mile when you think you can’t so why not incorporate it into your training ? It just might make you a better
