Children around the world run wild in the summer, having sleepovers, lounging beside the pool, partying at night. But should they really be doing that? Children have flexible minds, meaning that they learn and retain the information about things and easily lose the information on it. If children read during the summer, even 20 minutes a day, it will keep the information from the previous year stored in their heads. Test scores will improve, it will prevent summer reading loss and improve grammar and academics in general.…

To be honest I don't remember learning to read. It just seems like I've always known how to. I don't remember the struggle and determination little kids have trying to pronounce words that I can say with just a snap of my finger. It seems like reading is something I've always known how to do. If it's something I've known for awhile why don't I engage in this activity more?…

I remember how cool it felt to be able to leave the room without asking to go to the bathroom. I also remember teaching us about why structure was important by dancing on the desks, and kicking books everywhere, and that was an awesome year. Third Grade was when we learned a lot, and we had Ms. Massen. She was a pretty cool teacher, and gave me a lot of good books. Me and Tyler read a lot of Percy Jackson Books that year.…

After reading Vivid Memories of 1st Words I have learned that reading and getting read to as a child is very important. The author writes “Indeed, all the experts say people who were read to as children are better readers as adults.” I defiantly agree with this point mothers and fathers should read to their children before they even start school because it will allow children to be ahead in their schooling and give them a love for reading. If you give a student a love for reading at a young age they will love to ready as they grow older. Personally, both my parents and my grandmother read to me in English and in Spanish and I felt like that had big part of me being here in college.…

How do we learn to read or write? Most people will say it is simply taught to us in our early childhood years of life. And although that is true I believe the real question should be what or who has influenced us to read and write. It could be anything from a teacher or family member to an intriguing book you checked out from the library. Anyone or anything can persuade you to take an interest or disinterest in literacy; It's all about trial and error.…

Typically girls outperform boys on standardized test, the amount of reading done relates directly to reading achievement, and the kind of reading in school can cause boys to read less are three issues that need to be addressed. Knowing this, a study was conducted in an elementary school with thirty-five boys from four fifth grade classes in a north central North Carolina to find out what boys really want. Each of the students completed an open-ended interview about reading with questions that asked things such as the type of reader students are, if they like reading for pleasure, if reading will be important as a grownup, whether the men in their family read, what types of reading tasks at school are worthwhile, advice you have for your teacher…

The Story Behind my Learning I am a senior in high school which means I have learned, for 13 years of my life, how to read, write, look for details in a writing, close read, and how to fix my own writing. That seems like a lot, but I know that I still do not know everything about reading and writing. I can’t specifically remember the first time I started to read, however I do remember maybe in first or second grade, copying words over and over again trying to learn how to spell them. Then, I definitely remember in third grade starting to write in cursive and learning how the sign my name.…

As many kids were taught at an early age how to read and write I was too in Kindergarten by my older sister. Kids my age after school usually finished any homework assigned; then played with friends or watch television. On the other hand, I was taught in my old house which was pretty small and my sister, whom taught me it; she was in third grade She would love to play to “school” with me, it went a little like “I’ll be the teacher and you can be the student”. I would come home from a long day at school all tired, wanting to sleep and just wanting to stuff my face because of hunger. On the other hand, my sister was never tired, she had the energy to run a mile after school, which is why she always forced to me to learn the minute she came home.…

Reading and writing is an important aspect of learning, but in order to obtain these skills, you must first need to learn to comprehend the language. This all starts with your auditory system.
