Research shows that students on average scored lower on standardized tests during the summer than at the end of the school year. Research also shows that lower income students experience greater summer learning loss that their middle income and higher income peers. Low income students experience about 2 months of summer reading loss, while middle income students show slight gains in reading material and experience. I never intended to be an illegal smuggler. Seriously. But when four-year-old me found out that preschool had "naptimes" (in which apparently nobody napped, making it a waste of time to me), I decided to take matters into my own hands, with drastic measures. The next day, my top-secret contraband came in with me, in the form of a book. At 1:30, while everyone else did whatever preschoolers do during naptime, the book snuck out of its carefully concealed hiding place and I disappeared into its pages.…

Should schools require students to read this book? I think schools should not make students read “Stowaway.” I do not think so because the book is filled with 18th Century language, such as the word, “T’was.” I think this book is tedious and uninteresting because when I read this book, there are certain parts of the book that have no reason.…

Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it.
