Response To Dr. Williams: Thank You For The Prompt Response

Good morning Dr. Williams,

Thank you for the prompt response. I think writing is important throughout our life’s because it keeps us relevant on proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Writing throughout our life’s also improves our writing capabilities. It is impossible to get worse at something. The more we practice and write, the better we get. How students write portrays their knowledge and understanding. Most people have lifelong careers, and they need to be able to not only express themselves correctly in person but as on paper. Reading all posts is important. The reason being is that if you don’t read all the posts, we might miss important information or ideas that could improve our writing. I look forward to learning as

I actually very much so enjoyed writing throughout elementary school because I was able to write stories. This style of writing was enjoyable to me because it allowed me to let my creativity soar, and not only did it help my grammar, it also helped my penmanship. This style was also way more exciting than filling out worksheets or practicing spelling words out on a white board. But, in fourth grade, half of our english class was spent learning grammar. I constantly struggled in that class and never could seem to grasp the concepts.…

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

The way I’ve read in the past and how I read now, have changed. It’s changed a lot. When I was a wee lad I used to read a lot. I think I read so because my mom would make me read the same book with her, all the time. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch is the book and if I had my own copy, I think I’d read it on my own.…

In fact, writing has never been really significant for students like me up until middle school. That’s when my English teachers introduced structured essays and their “right way to write”, which was supposed to work for all students. I didn’t have a problem with this, since all I had to follow what the teacher said and I would get a good grade.…

“And what matters in this journey-at least initially-is not what kind of car you’re driving, but where you end up.” This quote spoke to me on levels beyond writing. When you get to the end of your life, you will be less concerned on the little aspects of life, but more on the journey and outcome of life. I find “The Importance of Writing Badly,” an incredibly mind opening essay. I have truly never thought from Bruce Ballenger’s point of view.…

Behind the Scenes of Letters and Words We live in a generation that relies on texting, instant messaging and social media to communicate. None of which require the proper necessities when actually writing but instead consist of abbreviation, misspelled words, lack of punctuation and the list could go on. Writing seems as if it is becoming less and less of a thing as life goes on and technology grows. The thought of writing and reading going extinct one day is a very scary view and something we should never let happen. From the Mesopotamian civilization to the present day civilization, writing has taken a place of importance in our daily lives; something I have always struggled with. Through school the most difficult subject that I have always struggled with is English. Growing up my first language was Spanish due to the fact that my parents do know much English. My parents were never able to read to me in English preventing me from hearing and seeing the English language; it was not until I entered elementary school that I was exposed to English. This has contributed to my difficulties in English courses throughout my education.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
