The modern era of social media has facilitated change in the business world. Social media are applications and tools that allow users to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas, and pictures/videos on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. According to the 2010 United States Census, there are approximately 80 million millennials in the Unites States. The following analysis will discuss the impact of social media on millennials in America. Plus, how the influence of social media on a generation of millennials has affected they’re to connect.
According to The History of Social Media, the internet prompted the birth of social media from the website called Six Degrees. Six Degrees, inspired from the ‘six degrees of separation’ theory became established in 1997 and lasted until 2001. It allowed users the ability to create a profile and add friends. During this time, blogging and instant message had become incorporated into the internet for people to communicate through different forums like today. This in return would lead to one of the prominent social media websites in America Online.
During the year 2000, millions of people were comfortable and familiar for engaging socially online. However, then it was viewed at as something done on spare time at best. The way for making friends came via chat rooms that people began to utilize. The internet was very much still being thought out as a place for people to invest in.…
