I picked the fifth dimension of wellness, which is Personal Wellness. I am going to be writing about how eating healthy will lead to a better sports performance. Many people know that one should eat healthy, and many athletes know that it will either negatively or positively affect their sports performance, or they’ll just be average in their performance. Even though, an athlete may be able to have a good sports performance while eating unhealthy and consuming many sugary and fatty foods. Their performance will not be as good as it could be if they followed a healthy diet or compared to that of an athlete following a healthy diet and meeting all the requirements needed to fuel their body. There are a few key components needed in the diet of an athlete and those are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fluids, electrolytes, and dietary supplements. These daily requirements should be broken down into the percentages shown “more than 55 per cent from carbohydrates, about 12 to 15 per cent from protein, less than 30 per cent from fat. Athletes who exercise strenuously for more than 60 to 90 minutes every day may need to increase the amount of energy they get from carbohydrates to between 65 and 70 percent (Sporting).” As stated by the ISSN, “Sports nutritionists ' often recommend that athletes consume 4-6 meals per day and snacks in between meals in order to meet energy needs.
