n the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Sean Covey, you are introduced to 7 habits to help you take control of your life. They are simple, but they can really help you. I have learned how to be more proactive and to stop procrastinating. I am now better at synergizing, listening, discovering the best solution to upcoming problems in my life, and planning ahead. Reading this book, I have become a greater person. You could overall learn how to get through your teenage years without being stressed out.

This habit explains how you should do the important things first. For instance completing a class assignment or an essay before you waste time on video games. You should complete your homework before you start watching tv all day. You need to understand to put the most valuable and important things before everything else. Next, the 4th habit is think win-win. You should search for the best alternative so everyone can benefit and be happy. If you lose do not think lose-lose and bring someone down with you. You also never want to have a win-lose attitude where you win and someone else suffers. Never think lose-win either, do not take the losses so other people can be happy. I try to apply this in my life by thinking of the best way to do something. I always try to make it where nobody is hurt or upset, the best way is where everyone is successful. Then there is habit 5 seek first to understand, then to be understood. This habit teaches you how to be a good listener. You should listen more than you speak. Once you understand other people you should then try to be understood. I do not talk as much and I try to understand where people are coming from. The habits have a lot of power in your life, you can take control of your life and make it better. This book was a little helpful, not everyone who reads this book will apply the habits into their life, but I chose to. The two habits I use the most actively are being proactive and beginning with the end in mind. I do not completely “sharpen the saw” I take care of my brain, heart, and soul, but I should start to eat a healthier diet and exercise more often.
