Life is a Highway
“According to the CDC, each day, nine people are killed and 1,060 more are injured in crashes that involve a distracted driver” (“Distracted Driving in the United States and Europe”). A text message can wait. So many studies have been and are being conducted on texting and driving and most of the outcomes are negative. After reading this maybe someone that picks up their phone while driving will think about the consequences. Texting while driving reduces the attention people pay to the road, is harmful in all cases, and teens are not the only ones who do it. The attention paid to the road while driving is very important. If a phone is picked up because it rang or buzzed, attention is not being paid to the road or what is around. Anything can happen when the driver looks down to grab their phone. “There are three types of distracted driving according to the CDC and these are visual, manual, and cognitive” (“Distracted Driving in the United States and Europe”). Texting while driving is all three. “Visual is eyes leaving the road, manual is hands coming off the wheel, and cognitive is the mind loosing focus on driving” (“Distracted Driving in the United States and Europe”). If all of these things are occurring, the chance of a wreck happening is 23 times more likely (“Because texting and driving kills”). Put the phone away, it can wait.
