1) The characteristics of the target market that JC Penney was attempting to appeal to with Ron Johnson’s changes to the stores/merchandise was young adults who were looking for good quality of cheaper prices. These customers wanted an experience they were finding at target and Kohl’s, so JC Penny decided to make some changes. To start, they implemented a “fair and square” pricing that reflected one fair price that would reflect a minimum 40 percent discount, a month long “value” price, and the best price that would be available on the first and their Friday of each month. New store layout plans were designed following a “time square” theme and have certain areas for designers.
