After completing the decision-making style quiz, I was able to determine my highest style of decision making is an analytical style with my lowest style reflecting a behavioral style of decision-making.
I agree with the feedback provided and recognize characteristics of my decision-making style across all styles, however, agree with analytical being my highest and behavioral being my lowest. A characteristic of being analytical is acquiring information by careful analysis and utilizing large amount of data. In my role as a Program Manager and being responsible for producing inventory management to my client, I have to carefully analyze the trends of our product and produce tangible data to our clients to ensure proper purchase orders are placed.

Six months into rollout, the white chef coats had become a dingy grey and the client had nearly 2500 units of white chef coats in stock totaling nearly $90,000 worth of inventory. Focusing on the technical problem and taking a logical approach to the issue, I made the suggestion corporate utilize the white chef coats for the employees who were offering samples at the shops and use for catering events. Through this logical approach I was able to reduce the inventory of branded apparel, while minimizing loss of revenue to my company as well as come up with a reasonable accommodation for my client. Contrary to the analytical style where being in control is important, behavioral decision-making style enjoys working in teams and encouraging participation. I enjoy working on my own and taking projects on. I will take the lead in project management and delegate responsibilities to a team, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and efficiently all the while retaining control. Behavioral decision-makers acquire information by listening and interacting with others and evaluating information by using feelings and instinct. My job is very analytical and relies on data and provable facts. …show more content…
As a manager you need to be flexible to lead effectively, be able to communicate too many different personalities and have the ability to motivate your employees. While the approach of emailing an excel file with inventory data may appeal to an analytical style, a conceptual style may prefer to attend a meeting where the same information is presented with a power point presentation. Being proficient in a range of techniques on how to inspire and motivate your employees will provide any manager with a great range of flexibility. My company requires all employees to take a personality test and each department has team retreats where each member reviews and analyzes their outcomes with each other. Our name plates not only contain our name and title, but also contain our personality type. After knowing my co-workers personality types and reading over the decision-making styles, I can closely assign a decision making style to each person. Through our team retreat and reviewing the decision-making styles I can be flexible on my approach to others. By understanding that some coworkers prefer to meet in person, some don’t like to make hard decisions or have control over situations, and other prefer to work alone rather in a group, a manager can lead more effectively, be able to communicate with ease and continuously motivate his or her employees with

Network influences relationship, but because nowadays people want to work with people they can trust, this can only be achieved through informal relations. When one person has to look after a lot of consumers to take care of, they might eventually make some feel unimportant as the leader tries to give every consumer the attention they need (as some people feel important when only dealing with the person in charge). If this happens they are likely to take their business elsewhere, where they feel their presence will be appreciated. If therefore people are working as collective leaders the responsibilities can be divided equally to make sure the consumers/shareholders feel important when attention is given to…

I manage a lot of the work and still have the chance to get to know my coworkers, employees, volunteers, and others in the business. I would be a democratic leader towards for my coworkers and the probationers because I would be more than just a leader and connect to them on a deeper level. Communication is very important to me and I would make sure everyone communicated in some form even if they were shy. Expectancy theory holds that employees will do what managers want when these facts are held true: task appears possible, reward offered is seen as an employee’s desire or to liking, belief that completing requiring behavior will lead to desired outcome. Being an extravert allows me to interact comfortably with the other members of the group and lead when necessary. The ability to see the big picture allows me to provide direction to the group to ensure we do not stray off course. The need to operate out of a structured framework forces me to set smaller goals and deadlines which helps make sure the group ultimately completes the task on time. Lessons Learned These personality tests have taught me two major lessons about organizational behavior. Firstly, I have learned every individual is different when it comes to where they draw energy, how they gather information, how they make decisions, and how they orient their life (Koeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, 2002).…

Managers have a new level of responsibility when it comes to creating a proactive, diverse culture within their team. This is something I would stress to Rita as she moves forward, not only in her evaluation process, but interactions with the team as a whole. I would suggest that Rita spend time with each of her employees, work side by side with them and most importantly, listen to them, just don’t “hear” them. By spending time with her employees, Rita can learn more about them on a personal level, helping her understand what makes them “tick” and what their thoughts are. Creating a diverse workfors that coherently achives the goals set for them is not an easy task, managers need to understand the challenges up front in order to proactively address them.…
