Test Of Essential Academic Skills Essay
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), is an exam required for admission to the
University of Hawai’i Maui College Nursing Program. The TEAS exam has four content areas: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. According to the TEAS Study Manual, there are 42 questions in the Reading area, 30 questions in the Mathematics area, 48 questions in the Science area, and 30 questions in the English & Language Usage area (Wolkowitz, 1). In addition, the exam has a time limit. The TEAS Study Manual indicated that the time limit of the test is 209 minutes: 58 minutes for the Reading, 51 minutes for the Math, 66 minutes for the Science, and 34 minutes for English (Wolkowitz, 1). In order to pass the exam, you need to pass the minimum scores required in the four content areas. If you don’t meet the minimum score for one area, you have to retake the entire exam. Maggie Bruck pointed out that the minimum score for the Reading area is 69%, 63.3% for the Math area, 45.8% for the Science area, and 60.0% for the English & Language Usage area (Bruck, 1). Good study skills and practice are needed in order to pass the exam.
