TMA 07: Critical Review

AA100 The Arts Past and Present was my first module with the Open University which has been a massive learning curve both in studying and being disciplined with my time to study. This approach doesn’t always work how I hope it would as sometimes I feel that I do struggle to understand the assignment question, however I always try and persevere by reading and re-reading the assignment question and the relevant chapter in the study material. Although I have found some of this module quite difficult, mainly because of the variety subjects, I feel that my ability to look past this and focus on the task has been key in completing the work so far has helped me to progress in this

The Fundamentality of the Arts in Public Education Picture a barren wasteland, empty of any thought that branches outside of normality. The world needs art, not for survival, but for the sake of its people.…

The body language of all the students was tense as they hunched over their works looking for flaws that might cost them precious points on their AP exam. When I commented on the stressed atmosphere of the class, one student stated, “I love this class and the people and the atmosphere, but I hate the pace.” Art is a way for many students to express emotion such as anger, sadness, or to achieve a sense of peace and relaxation. These looming deadlines that determine their success in the course detract from the enjoyment that art provides for many of the students. When people think of art, myself included, the thought is that art should be a free and uncontainable concept that flows from the creator of the works not confined by any restricting deadlines.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…

I entered college unsure of what career I wanted to pursue. My interest had always been in art since I was little, but I thought I would no longer enjoy art if I turned it into a career. At first, I chose to seek a degree in business administration because wanted a degree that would offer me a variety of jobs. About halfway through completing my business degree I decided to take a college art class to see if I still would find art enjoyable as a career. I found that having to follow guidelines made me less passionate about my art.…
