Now let's look at non-traditional students. I feel they suffer more adjustment problems. I am pleased that Southeast Community College offers the TRIO Program. I needed assistance with about every aspect of returning to college. TRIO helped me in so many ways. I did not know how to register for classes, then how to drop a class. I also needed help on how to manage my class and study time. I was clueless how to do work outside of class. After learning how much time would be spent on homework plus taking 13.5 credit hours, I was overwhelmed. I didn’t even realize that I could apply for scholarships until I was notified. The organization also get to do activities on and off campus. I am very thankful for being part of a great organization like TRIO. One thing that I had to learn on my own was peer pressure. Peer pressure between students can be used for all the wrong reasons. It does not matter how long you have been out of school, the stress of returning may be more than they expected. It does not matter how well you are doing grade wise, someone in class will compete to achieve better grades then you.
