Burdens and Benefits of Telemedicine
The burdens of telemedicine include reliance on technology, which is prone to electronic glitches resulting due to power outages and internet connections disruptions. Such glitches adversely affect the consultations with a healthcare provider. The technology also lays a burden on doctors who may be struggling to use the new technology in addition to the problem of inadequate assessment since the doctor cannot touch or feel the patient. The major benefits of the technology include improved quality of life, improved patient satisfaction with health services, and improved patient compliance with treatment plans, as well as decreased hospital utilization.
