The Integrated Clinical User Experience (ICUE) was created by UnitedHealth Group (UHG) as a platform to house the medical and behavioral health services information into one central delivery system to improve the member and user experience (UnitedHealth Group [UHG], n.d.). Misuse of the patient information or patient record can not only lead to termination for the offender but can cause harm to the patient as well (UHG, n.d.). In addition, a significant breach of confidentiality can bring fines as well to both the offender and the organization (United States Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.).
Violation Prevention
The UHG organization provides several layers of security to protect access to patient protected information, including multiple passwords as well as a security card and a token that displays a new passcode every 20 seconds. All three of the security access tools must be used collectively each time the system is accessed as a means to protect the member and avoid harm. Another opportunity utilized by UHG to minimize breaches of confidentiality and patient privacy is by limiting the access of the staff to the minimal amount of patient information necessary to complete the assigned tasks.
