Successful skills The problem that Anaheim schools are facing is that most students are not being successful. Most students do not meet the requirements for their age or school grade. In order for students to be more successful in school, I suggest that there should be a mandatory after-school study hall. In the article of Marita’s Bargain by Gladwell, Malcolm the students attend to a Kipp school which they have that “Students rock in math”(4). This is basically giving you the straight facts on how Kipp students are successful. Also “I think that extended amount of time gives you the chance as a teacher to explain everything and more time for the kids to sit and digest everything that's going on, to review”(10). “Poor Performance to a lack of ability depresses motivation more than does the belief that lack of effort is to blame”(22).In this article, there are many students who have the mentality that they are smart and that makes their brain actually think that they are actually smart and they will try and then will eventually give up. The student’s have a “fixed mindset” which is when students will always show that they look and are smart and they will never show that they are dumb. They also believe that their intelligence and their talent are their traits. “However, more than 30 years of scientific investigation suggest that an overemphasis on intelligence or talent leaves people vulnerable to failure, fearful of challenges and unwilling to remedy their shortcoming”(21).
