The second weakness of this leader is communication. In the leadership model of Kouzes and Posner this is encapsulated in the “Clarify Values” which is part of “Model the Way” as one of the five key qualities of the model. The values and the vision for the organization by the leader was always advertised, however there was never a clear path offered to the organization. In an article by Momeni “Developing and improving face-to-face communications with employees and giving employees enough information, as well as providing credibility and improving it through honesty and good morals” this is clearly pointed out. In the leadership model of Kouzes and Posner this is included in the “Recognize Contributions” which is part of “Encourage the Heart” as one of the five key qualities of the model. The recognition is not only in merit or compensation, but at a deeper level, recognition of the “… employee’s spirit and individual needs, as shown by support, collaboration and caring” (Momeni). The lack of recognition of the existing problem areas and the troubles which the employees have been enduring during this process has pushed the employees to cynical and pessimistic outlook to the entire process, vision, leadership and the organization. Employees who are heard by their organization and upper management are more likely to stay with the company, contribute to the vision of the organization in a more meaningful way, since they start feeling a sense of ownership and responsibility for the success of the organization. (Momeni). When the employees feel like they have a voice within the organization they are more likely to go the extra mile. This is an opportunity for the organization as it is seeing an increased volume of turnover and its rating with the internal ratings done by third party surveyors are very low. This will make the organization a more desirable place to work and the organization will be able to attract greater talent and
