Staff Nurse Orientation Plan

At this time, I am contemplating on continuing my education after graduation and obtaining my Masters in Nursing. In addition to working at the hospital I enjoy mentoring and training new staff. Recently an instructor from Rasmussen College in St. Cloud encouraged me to apply as an RN Instructor. Barriers to me obtaining my Masters Degree, vary from continuing education burnout, I don’t want to take a statistics class, write a thesis, and the added expenses of tuition. My husband is very supportive in the event I do decide to continue my education but my children have expressed they would not like to continue my education due to lack of family time.

In the event I do not continue my education, my goal is to stay at my current employee and expand my nursing skill by cross training to the Labor and Delivery department. One of the benefits from working in a Critical Access Hospital is all staff are encouraged to cross train to all departments of the hospital. Over the next three to four years I will continue to enhance my nursing skills and cross train to different department, such as Surgery, Labor and Delivery, and possibly Intensive Care. My family and I plan to relocate to Colorado within the next three to four years, so by

New staff orientation should include reviewing the organizations mission statement, organizations vision, benefits, job description, employer’s expectations, policies, and procedures. Methods for new employee orientation can be reading materials, power point presentation, and online. With technology advancing many individuals prefer online orientation. According to SHIH and MILLS, “effective online programs incorporate teaching principles, flexible individualized learning content, rapid response, repetitive learning according to user request, and time management in self-teaching” (SHIH, LEE, LIU, & MILLS, 2013, p.
