Sesame Street, Between Between The Lions

My earliest experience being read to was enlightening during kindergarten. I know I was read to by my teacher yet the only memory during those years that survived was the show from Sesame Street: Between Between the Lions. The name I now know is a pun coming from reading between the lines but instead of lines the producers placed lions since they sound similar. The show consisted of two lions who read words and books on the classroom television teaching us new words and some grammar. The teacher created a set time for the show. In that grade it was a feeling like movie time. I don’t explicitly remember the name given to the time but it did

Turner mentions that throughout the whole story exact times are told. The example she uses is when Charlie eats at “noon”. The gift of Magi and the Sesame street video have some intersting similarities and differences for example, both stories show how the two characters are really poor and unhappy because they don't have enough money to buy each other Christmas gifts. However in the Sesame street video is shows how Bernie and Ernie weren't as poor as Della and Jim because they lived in a better home than Della and Jim. Furthermore when it comes to the middle of the story they did have to exchange there favorite belongings to be able to buy each other gifts. Another similarity is while they got each other gifts they trated there belongings to buy the other person a gift that would go great with there favorite belongings, little did they know that in the end that…

The concerning issue of equality is an extremely complex topic that is difficult to define. After reading four different pieces of literature, we have discovered that each piece has a different view on how to achieve true equality. The first piece of literature that we read was Animal Farm, which displayed an allegory of the Russian Revolution. This novel used animals to symbolize the Russian communist party, and like the Russian party, the animals had a cruel dictator.…

My first memory of reading was when I was little, about 4 or 5, and my mom would read to me when I was going to bed. By far my favorite book that she would read to me was “Where The Wild Things Are”. I loved the way the booked looked with the faded looking colors that made it look old and I loved the pictures of the wild things and how the kid was the king and everyone listened to him and I just loved it.…

The Gift of the Magi is about two people who sacrifice some thing that they love to be able to afford something for some one else. This story is ironic because the animated object that they got for one another could only be used with the exacted thing that they sold to afford one another gift. To understand the two stores "Gift of the Magi" and "Sesame Street" it is necessary to take a closer look at the setting, irony, both characters, and also figurative language. In both stores the ironic irony was the same and they had the same story line.…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

Noraly Caldera Journal entry # 2 Memories Perhaps my earliest memories of being read to began when I was 4 years old. My grandfather used to read the newspaper to us every morning during breakfast time, unless he wasn’t feeling well. He would often say the newspaper was the best way to keep us himself and us informed of what’s going on throughout the world. Although I was fairly young these are one of fewest memories that could recall vividly and I hold on it this one memory dearly.…

A majority of my generation has seen “The Lion King” multiple times during their childhood years. Unfortunately I haven’t watched it, so I viewed this movie with an open mind and empty slate. Seeing as I had never watched it before, I had only the vaguest idea of what it would be like. I thought it was going to consist of the stereotypical character scheme of a protagonist who faces his villain, defeats the enemy, and wins some sort of award at the end. I never considered that it would go further into depth than that.…

Interviewing retired educator, Art Huinker, about his lifetime reading experiences was a very enlightening journey that took us back to the late 1930’s when reading to a child was not as much of a priority for parents as it is today, nor were books as accessible in the home setting, like they are now. As a youngster growing up on a farm in rural Festina, Iowa, Huinker states, “We had a newspaper in the house and a farm journal, but outside of that we did not have any books available for leisure reading.” Moreover, the role of reading in his early life was primarily connected to his academic world where he advanced through the ranks, and eventually achieved a four-year degree at Loras College, while passionately pursuing a career in professional baseball. After marrying Ann, his high school sweetheart, and starting a family of their own, Huinker went on to achieve his dream of pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals and in later years, wrote about his success in the book, “Small Man, Big Heart.” At the end of his sports career Huinker transitioned to a professional career in education that ended as a history professor at Loras College in…
