The specific qualities of a leader have always been in question in determining if an individual has the characteristics of a great leader. From the early 1840’s with the Great Man Theory to today with Charismatic Theory, leadership styles are constantly being analyzed and formulated to fit in the current context of leadership. Merriam – Webster describes leadership as the power or ability to lead other people in a group, organization, or situation (Leadership, 2015, p.1). An interesting thought about a leadership is that if a sample population is asked what are the characteristics of a great leader there would be a variety of answers because each individual has their own formulated idea about how a great leader should act and conduct tasks. Leadership has a drastic transformation when you analysis different fields and careers of leaders. If we take an executive or CEO from a fortune 50 company and compare their leadership style with a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps we would clearly see the differences. Feed My Starving Children is the main nonprofit I chose to analysis because of my current internship/career with the organization. Feed My Starving Children was founded in 1987 by Richard Proudfit after his mission trip to Honduras in 1982 where he actually saw children in horrific nutritional conditions (FMSC, 2015). Richard was inspired to create an organization that would feed starving children around the world by casually reading a bible verse that said, “For I was hungry and you gave me food” (Matthew, 25:35, English Standard Version).
