A leader is necessary in maintaining a peaceful society. If there isn’t someone in charge, there would be no rules. If there were no rules, people would do whatever they please and do a lot of it. Life would be chaos. Leaders of various areas of life and history are responsible for speed limits and stop signs. Imagine how dangerous driving would be if it wasn’t for some leader somewhere in history. Over the years, leaders have thrived with having determination, showing respect, and being approachable. A leader is someone who guides or directs a group. Determination, respect, and approachability are key attributes to being a successful leader. Being determined and being passionate go hand and hand. The pilot and any adults that might have been on the plane were killed in the crash. Since the boys don’t have a superior figure to listen too, they decide to create one. Ralph is one of the older boys who blows a conch shell to call a meeting. For that reason, he is elected chief of the island. Ralph makes a good leader because he demonstrates all of the characteristics mentioned above. He is more than determined to get off the island; therefore, he will lead in the best way known to him to make it happen. He is also respected, at least at the beginning of the novel. He tells his followers who to build shelters, who to hunt, and who to make fire. At first, they did what he asked because they all had respect for each other. As time when on, though, less and less respect was given to his followers and in return, they didn’t respect him and some even left the tribe. Lastly, Ralph was approachable. Many times during the novel, other characters came up to Ralph to give him suggestions. Some said that the hunters should always hunt and not mend the fire. Others said that they needed more fun and less work. The fact that his followers were comfortable with coming up to him and talking to him shows that he doesn’t have too much power and isn’t their controller, just their …show more content…
Pastor Bob Shriner at St. John Lutheran Church is an example of a similar leader. He has been a member of the church for a number of years but has just recently taken over as the lead Pastor. As a pastor, he is the leader of the congregation and in doing so, he requires the assets stated above. He is determined to help the growth of the church in the most essential way he can provide. He is filled with determination because of his passion for the people and for Christ. Respect is a key factor in his job. Without respect towards the congregation, there wouldn’t be one. Of course the congregation respects him too. They wouldn’t attend St. John if they didn’t. Also, Pastor Shriner is very approachable. Once again, to be a good church leader he has to be able to be available for the members to talk to when they question their
