Martin Luther King, Jesus of Nazareth, Harriet Tubman, Oprah Winfrey, and Pope Francis. Undoubtedly, each of these people are considered leaders. Leaders share certain qualities but each have their own vision. Traits common in leadership include: courage, integrity, inspiration, creativity, and vision. Each of these characteristics are cornerstones for making a great leader. “Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen,” Winston Churchill. A good leader must be courageous in order to make a change. Many have risked their lives for their beliefs. Jesus of Nazareth is a prime example of this. He was willingly crucified for his faith in Christianity and his followers. Not only did Jesus show a great deal of courage, he was also known for his integrity. …show more content…
To have integrity, one must be honest, positive, accountable, and humble. Our current Pope Francis has demonstrated each of these qualities. Despite being the most powerful religious leader today he shuns the lavish lifestyle, washes the feet of prisoners, and teaches acceptance. Pope Francis is an inspiration to not only his Catholic followers but others that may not identify with a religion. “Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody,” author unknown. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was inspirational in this way. He was instrumental in bringing attention to equality in all races. In 1964, he was recognised receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in addressing racial inequality through nonviolent measures. He was another leader that died for the well-being of others.
