Reflection Paper On The W Curve

One of the first topics we covered in class was the W curve. The W curve consists of a predictable pattern in which occurs when a person experiences culture shock. Personally, I thought I went through the W curve quickly. One thing I did not experience as described on the W curve was homesickness. As much as I thought being in a new environment on my own would be uncomforting, I surprised myself and was able to adjust just fine. I didn’t feel the need to go home soon or every weekend which made things a lot easier. My biggest relation to the W curve was feeling if I made the right choice in choosing a college. Also, my mind was going back and forth with what I wanted to do with my life and what my major should be. As I got to know Duluth more outside campus and as I met new people, that feeling slowly started to fade. As the major goes, I did a lot of research and talked to different advisors and I think I have finally figured out a plan. Rather then not doing anything about my stress, I’m glad I talked to people about it because it made choosing classes for next semester easier and less stressful. It’s stressful going through all the bumps of the W curve but I took things one at a time and figured them out and it has been turning out just fine so far. One thing that could have helped me out with choosing a major would have been going to the wedge and taking a career assessment.
