I presented myself as the facilitator for the day, students called me teacher and I told them I was not a teacher or expert in citizenship classes but still they called me teacher. Another point Competency 2 refers to is self-regulation to manage the influence of personal biases and values when working. To be honest I don't think someone could master this point who could put aside their own values? I think in one way or the other you will always say and suggest something base on your own beliefs or values.…

While growing up in a military family, my family and I have had to move around the country many times. Because of our itinerant lifestyle, I was exposed to many different cultures and varieties of people. Due to this exposure and the necessity of relating to others, I believe I have been prepared to work well with people who are different from me. A person’s religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity should have no bearing on their ability to accomplish a task that I have been charged with overseeing. I believe having strong connections to my Native American and Mexican heritages and backgrounds has helped me to become more comfortable while working with others that are different.…

I found that I had eight specific strengths throughout the assessment. These included, being a good listener, feeling comfortable speaking and giving eye contact, asking the speaker to repeat their feelings for personal clarity, empathy, asking questions to gather information, using reflection techniques, using basic interviewing skills, and facilitating conversation to move toward a goal. All of these skills are clearly brought out in my experience volunteering at Orchard Hill Elementary.…
