When I first heard about taking a college English class I was a little hesitant knowing that I am not a very strong writer. I was worried that a college class would be much more fast paced and difficult than the high school classes I had become accustomed to, I was concerned with the class being online, and not having any face to face communication, and I was afraid I would not be able to keep up and I would fall far behind, however this was not the case. While I did struggle some in this class, it helped me become a much better writer. Looking back at my first essay, and comparing it to my argumentative essay I can see that I have advanced as a writer. This class has allowed me to better express my thoughts and opinions when writing. In the past, I rarely received satisfying grades on my papers and essays. I had very little confidence in myself prior to taking this course, and I did not think I was going to achieve much. Before taking this class my writing was very unorganized, hard to read, and did not flow well. I never used thesis statements, and I had very weak transitions. After taking this class I can now write strong thesis statements and map out my writing. My transitions have improved greatly this semester and my writing is beginning to flow better. I believe that my best paper this semester was the interview essay. This paper helped my thesis statement, transition, and organization skills greatly. With this essay I was able to better understand how to map out my paper with an effective thesis statement. While my papers still tend to be a little disorganized, this class has considerably helped me and allowed me to grow into a much better

Things like citations, in text citations, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and so on, have been improved over this semester. I have learned to use in text citations wisely to make my points sound stronger in my paragraphs. “Albert Einstein said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid’’”. This is quote is a perfect example of this because it made my point exceptionally stronger in my Extended Argument Essay.…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

English 101 taught me how to be more creative and broad about writing. Example on Essay 1 I didn’t really mention anything about Sonia Sotomayor’s mother not wanting her to work, and behind that was facts and important information about he context that I missed. I also approach my assignments differently now; I make sure my paragraphs are structured in the write order for an easy read for the reader. I realized when I start off with a good approach on a topic I have to tools and skills learned in class to expand ideas and write a solid piece of writing to read. I did also realize that I am bad to start off with, I haven’t seemed to find that spark to start me off right, so I guess that’s why they call it a shitty first…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
