Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use. Prior to this class I knew that I should always convey the purpose of my writing, yet I tended to ignore my stance when writing. The excerpt “What My Bike Has Taught Me about White Privilege” by Jeremy Dowsett made me realize how important my stance is when writing. PeerMark through Turnitin.com created a great way for my fellow classmates and I to collaborate. At first I was skeptical, however, PeerMark turned out to be a very great tool. I enjoyed reviewing other people’s essays because peer reviews opened my eyes to several mistakes of my own that I previously overlooked such as double periods and quotation errors. I learned from the mistakes that my fellow classmates pointed out in my essays and tried to be more aware when writing. Although PeerMark was a great tool, I mostly enjoyed being able to collaborate with my instructor. After having my essays checked by my instructor I always felt more confident in them. I tended to understand how to correct my mistakes after having them explained by Professor Hedges. Interacting with my instructor throughout the course made English 101 less burdensome and the assignments easier to understand.
