Reflection is the art of looking back at the acquired knowledge, and thinking about how it can be applied to practice (Moon, 2013). It is an important learning process, which helps student nurses to not only associate and apply the acquired knowledge, but helps both the learners and the teachers to recognize strengths and weaknesses. Reflection helps to actively question the acquired knowledge, and its importance in practice. Additionally, reflection assists the learners to challenge the knowledge based on real life situations against the acquired knowledge.

Competency implies that as a nurse, I will be able to provide relevant and high quality care to the patients. One important component of relevant and high quality care is effective communication (Burnard & Gill, 2014). I need to consider what my colleagues and patients are asking and be able to respond using the written word and by verbal answers. Sometimes lending a hand, and listening well are the best ways to verify that the communication is being effective. Patient values include the views and opinions of patients regarding care, while clinical expertise includes the accumulation of clinical skills from education and practice (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2011).
I will show the ability to translate evidence-based research into practice through completion of clinical paperwork using evidence-based research.
