Reflection Of A Social Worker

Register to read the introduction… Sometimes I would see a complete stranger and go up to them and ask them if they were okay. I often got teased by some of my friends who would call me the counselor but it was always just a sense of humor. I admired the idea because they always were able to talk to me. But, at that point in my life, I never realized how much the things that I loved to do related to some of the same qualities of a Social Worker. It important to have good communication skills when working with your clients, and not be lost for words during meeting. The client may feel that they he/she cannot connect with you proficiently. Or, for that matter he/she may not even want you as their social worker. You have to have good eye- connect, listening skills, and vocal skills. As, a social worker you have to be able to help your patients no matter if they are male, female, white, black, or poor; in other words you cannot be judgmental. After working at my Field Observation I demonstrated this effectively. I never felt uncomfortable, or unsafe, I was happy to work with diverse people. Ashland Elementary primary consists African American students. As a child, this did not bother me because I really did not understand diversity completely, but I asked as many question as I could. When it was time for me to attend middle school my family moved to a sububaran area and it was more diverse with people and culture. The middle school that I attended was Carr Lane Visual and Performing Art. The first day of school was like looking at a rainbow; it was so many nationality I did not even know what they were I was amazed. The first person who talked me was a girl name Songkanh Somatmanivong. Songkanh’s mother was Asian and father was African American and she was became one of my best friends. Nevertheless, I was privileged to be around so many cultures, and races that it would significantly help me out in the social work
