Co-working means two social workers working together as colleagues to help a family group. One of the ways that two social workers could work together is that one worker could work with the children, while another works with the parents. Another way is that one worker might observe another working with the family, either in the room with them or through a one-way mirror or video link. Some of the advantages to this include: seeing and hearing more of what is happening, sharing the pressures and the achievements, learning together and from each other and gaining different insights about the family group, its relationships and behaviour, including possibly different perceptions from black and white, male and female…

Totally confused, I walked through the doors of the Meridian Behavioral Healthcare overwhelmed with anxiety and uncertainty. The orientation time was never communicated; therefore, there was no time set for arrival. Arriving at 8:00am, I waited patiently for instruction. After a couple hours of waiting, the treatment specialist escorted the intern students to an office to wait for the arrival of the Recovery Supervisor. It is clear the organization was not prepared for the internship.…

As a social worker, I have never analyzed or interrogated my approach, even though I have always criticized society and its institutions, as my perceptions and world conceptions emerge from a country historically marked by violence, particularly for a long war, commanded by an armed group. This communist group started its combat due to social inequalities and social structures, inspired by socialism. Since then, Colombia has experienced a prolonged conflict, and social workers have been dealing with the effects. Therefore, my experience has been surrounded by imbalance, oppression, and marginalization.…

It will be helpful to use during field placements, especially with mandated clients. • I also learned a lot about engaging mandated/involuntary clients. When working in the field, I most likely will be working with mandated clients who do not want to be working with me.…

This assignment will attempt to demonstrate knowledge of different types of communication within social work, it will look at the importance of a relationship approach, explain why hostility may be present with service users, and their views on effective communication, whilst drawing on my experiences with service users L and apply theories to my practice. Effective communication lies at the heart of all social work practice, it is demonstrated when using advocacy, making assessments, writing reports and working in multi-disciplinary teams, as well as these there are other times when communication is used; without communication these tools would not be able to happen (Parris, 2012). The first quality that I think is critical in being an effective social worker is empathy. I think to care, and understand the needs of clients, empathy is essential. The second quality is the motivation to help clients with support and guidance. For instance, this involves participating in self-care to better serve clients. I also think that this consists of not giving up on a client, and staying proactive in helping the client change his or her behavior.…

Discussion D5 Reading the information presented on the website, www3.niaid.nih.gov/research/topics, I was amazed by one of the world's most alarming issues of this century, which is the increasing incidence of sexually transmitted diseases, which have a negative effect not only on adults but also on children, on infants. A single unprotected intimate relationship with an infected person is sufficient to contract a sexually transmitted disease (STD). In the absence of an early diagnosis and a perfectly adapted treatment, such a disease can cause serious complications. When it comes to sexually transmitted diseases, I cannot rely on the "it will not happen to me”.…

When I came to Ohio State this summer, I began the program with the expectation that I would continue studying health disparities, in order to address examine health inequalities from standpoints of race, gender, sexual identity, and location. While I am still interested in those topics, throughout the semester my research interests have shifted, largely due to the work that I’ve been able to do with Dr. Cho as my temporary advisor this fall. At the beginning of the year, she had me read various theories surrounding illness narratives, including Frank’s The Wounded Storyteller (1998) and Hydén’s Illness and Narrative (1997), as well as some of her own work on narrative risk communication and perceived realism. (While I find Dr. Cho’s work…
