b. Personally, I think the way social workers providing services should depend on the types of clients we are working with. Working with children is different with working with elderly. Even though both groups demand special care, elderly do not like to be treated as children. Reflective Journal Assignment – Assignment #2 This whole interviewing experience was pretty great and interesting from both sides of the interviewing process; But while I was being interviewed, I felt a slight bit of discomfort during the process and felt that while my “Social Worker” (Bailey) was interviewing me was just a tad bit tense; And what I mean by her being tense is her posture was tense, like she didn’t really seem comfortable at all interviewing me, and her voice was tense as well, she spoke fast and rushed through everything which caused some discomfort. On the other hand, she did make me feel like I was being heard, she never once broke her eye contact with me and somewhat expanded on the questions she originally asked; Also she made it quite easy for me…

However, this aspect about my brother introduced me to the profession of social work. We always had a social worker come in and out of the house. I remember my mom telling me who they were and what they did. I respected their line of work and their ability to understand my family’s life situation.…

Sociology 100 Reflection Essay: Week Three Chapter eight extensively describes how gender, sex, and gender/sex roles between sexes were all shaped and how they are all viewed by each person in today’s society, as well as how they were viewed when theories about them first came out. Chapter eight goes in depth with the concept of gender. Conley describes gender as a social position, or “ a set of social arrangements that are built around normative sex categories” (Conley). This basically means that every one is born biologically different (male or female), but what we make of those differences defines ones gender.…

The rhetorical decision, using all our senses, and two descriptions paper lessons were my favorite. Learning how to write not just my opinion and views, but rather factor in who I was trying to capture with my writing was a new learning experience for me. Military writing has been my main form of writing for a long period of time and in that form of writing your main goal was to get the objective across without much concern for those that would be reading the document. Most letters I wrote were meant to be directives and not up for discussion. Also, I enjoyed the exercises where we used all our senses.…

Throughout this semester we have discussed and practiced various techniques that can be used when working with clients. This semester at Loyola has enhanced my understanding of what it truly means to be a social worker, from the classroom perspective. In my field placement, I do not believe it is directly related to social work, but I was able to use a social worker perspective when interacting with the children in the program. This course was the only course that provided me with hands-on experience of engaging with different types of clients. In my other classes, we did not do case demonstrations instead, we discussed different theories and perspectives about individuals and family systems.…

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” is a philosophy many strive to follow. This quote from Confucius is something we always heard growing up, especially in high school. In high school is when everyone says that you need to decide what your life goals and aspirations should be. If you asked what I wanted to be my freshman year of high school I said a pediatric nurse, my sophomore year I said an accountant, my junior year I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and then my senior year I decided that all I really wanted to be able to do was help people. I had no idea what I could do, but then I learned about social work.…
