I used to see management as a job, where you need to show up every day, boss people around, meet your end of the contract and make sure that thing don’t get messed-up. You're responsible for every result, every detail, you’re hired to do that job and all you need to do is to meet those expectations. I used to work in an energy providing company in France, so as an engineer, I had a boss, and saw him as the devil, he’s there to make sure you do your job and your life doesn’t matter to him. Not an easy task if you ask me. At the beginning of this assignment as I sat down mind and page both blank, I thought about the fact that I never sat down and reflected on any of my past experiences, I never wrote a reflection on anything and yet here I am trying to figure out how to reflect and do a retrospective journal. It would be a complete lie if I say that this experience didn’t add anything to my knowledge. First I acquired the tools necessary to see what is wrong with this management, as I said in my mind managers were always people controlling and pushing you to your breaking point, companies are there to make profit no matter what are the means, turns out managers can participate to the development of employees, companies can be socially responsible and that enlarges their market share. Second without a minimum level knowledge, I would never pay attention to certain traits, because if you don’t know what you’re looking for you will never find it, per example the type of personalities manager have, the 4 managerial functions etc. Last, I found out that education, environment, and personality play a huge part on what sort of manager you’re going to be. For example if you only study scientific materials and you lack human scales, as a manager you will most certainly be strict, low tolerant and have a low error
