No matter the size of the organization, public relations departments are now focusing their attention the booming social media movement in Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, blogs, and many more. The Maine Red Claws had a impactful 2015-2016 season recording 31 wins and 19 losses ranking them as number 1 in the Atlantic division, and rank 2 in the eastern conference in the National Basketball Association development league(NBA D-League). It's an easy way to discover the latest news related to subjects you care about. Twitter contains information you will find valuable. Messages from users you choose to follow will show up on your home page for you to read. You can discover news as it’s happening, learn more about topics that are important to you, and get the inside scoop in real time. The Maine Red Claws has been extremely active in the Twitter community, monitoring team activities, managing player accounts, advertising new promotions, and other league news to their 11.1K followers. With the long wait until the next regular season the Red Claws could energize fan support by establishing a meet and greet for fans to meet players, general managers, and coaches. They also can promote the sales of jerseys, team memorabilia, and can hold sweepstakes that fans can register for a chance to win. Recently the mascot (Crusher the world-famous lobster mascot) was introduced and asked questions by fans about its in game experience in a tweet. My proposal is to not include the player and personnel in the meet and greet, because it will allow the fans to hold a part in the organization they love. With the assistance of twitter human resource department can send out tweets broadcasting the live events …show more content…
Snapchat is an image and video messaging application software that has been access by billions of people worldwide. This new form of communication is a great way for the Red Claws to promote the meet and greet event because the world can watch the event through a mobile phone. According to Snapchat's published statistics, as of May 2015, the applications users were sending 2 billion photos and videos per day, while Snapchat Stories content was being viewed 500 million times per day. This is a great opportunity for the Red Claws to branch out and create their own Snapchat Story to record players during the pregame shootarounds, watching fans participate in numerous fundraisers, and personally snapchat viewers to promote their brand. Larger organizations like the Boston Celtics use Snapchat as a tool to have an inside look in the Celtics locker

Sherry Turkle’s essay “Connectivity and Its Disconnects” talks about how online connections may make people feel closer to each other yet pull them further apart because of things people do like multitasking. She further talks about this disorientation and feeling “alone and together” when interacting with people online, because she is talking to them and seeing them without them actually being there. Turkle gives an example of her friend, Ellen, who talks to her grandmother over skype and feels guilty because she feels as if connecting with her grandmother was “another task among multitasking”. This results in false intimacy and fake relationships. The question of whether social media and online connections have positive or negative outcomes…
