The creation of the United States had to start with someone migrating to the North American continent. So my question is why is America, a country made up of immigrants, so xenophobic of Mexican immigrants? Xenophobia is the intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. I don 't believe all Americans are xenophobic but, a good amount of this country is. I believe that most of these Americans who are xenophobic forget that even they themselves are of some kind of immigrant descent. This is what makes the fear and dislike so irrational. People who are afraid or have this irrational dislike against immigrants are usually scared that the immigrants will take jobs or resources, are influenced by political leaders and media, and just don 't understand the situation these immigrants are in.
I grew up about thirty minutes from the border. My family, before the violence in Mexico began, used to go almost every weekend to a nice little place in Mexico to shop and eat. My best friend was born there she was the only one besides her parents to be born there. She always said she was the lucky one of three other brothers to be born there, sarcastically. Up until this past December of 2015 she was illegal, she was very excited to be considered a citizen. She had waited for eighteen years. She would say at least once a year that she was going to be able to apply for citizenship soon; eventually she said she had to wait till she was eighteen. They even told her that…
