The patient was always the top priority. The medical team spent time addressing every concern that the patient and her husband had. Determining what was to happen next was addressed as a collective team including the patient in the decision. Respecting her autonomy in her medical decisions, but also including her husband who is her caregiver was important as well. According to lecture, the three relationships of nursing were hit. There was a relationship with the patient and her husband, the care provider with self, and with colleagues (Zimmer, 2016). Everyone involved had one common goal for the patient’s safety and to respect her concerns. The primary doctor had to be self knowing and know what would help the patient feel more at ease. The relationship between the nurse and the primary doctor allowed for a common purpose which was to ensure that the patient was calm and received top level care. The care the patient received focused “on three relationships: the patients and families, with colleagues, and with self” (Guanci, 2016). All of the three relationships are standards of care that were achieved in the patient’s time at the hospital which allowed for individual patient- centered care. The patient expects the doctors to devote time to her and treat her as more than a number. After hearing the patients take on the experience and relating that to literature and related class discussion I believe the patient received quality patient-centered care. The team, the doctor personally, and all parties involved had one goal from this whole experience. That goal was to ensure that the patient was the one in the spot light and allow her to feel safe, comfortable, and in as much control that was safe for her. Due to the patient having dementia, it was important for those with that condition to to feel safe in the environment they are in. Overall, the patient received the caring, healing, and safe environment that she desired. Interactions with the medical team left her feeling like a top priority fostering therapeutic communication and providing an environment that was comfortable for the
