For me to be professional I believe that I must be under authority, in other words never having a better idea then my boss or my teachers and only have the utmost respect for them. This is to obtain the quality that they expect in the job that is done.

When I think of professionalism in a work-related setting, the first thing that comes to mind is appearance and demeanor. The first impression is the most important one, it’s where you sell yourself and make a good impression. In an office, all therapists are dressed appropriately with men usually in shirts and ties while the women wear dress pants with a blouse. The very first thing a patient sees when they enter the facility, is what the therapists are wearing. Although it’s sad we judge people, appearance is one of the biggest factors in deciding immediately whether you like or dislike someone.…

The text defines ethics as “acceptable or good practice according to agreed-upon rules or standards of practice established by a profession” (Remley & Herlihy, 2014, p.4). Professional orientation and ethics has expanded my knowledge in the importance of counselor compliance, the importance of boundaries between and counselor and a client, and the different types of ethical decision making models.
