Manulife Financials vision is “to be the most professional financial services organization in the world, providing strong, reliable, trustworthy and forward-thinking solutions for our customers’ most significant financial decisions”. To achieve this, they have established five core values to help their employees imbue this vision into their lives. These values are Professionalism, Value to our Customers, Integrity, Demonstrated Financial Strength and Employer of Choice (PRIDE). Of these five core values, Professionalism is the most important, in my opinion, as without it is extremely difficult to exhibit the other four.

Though I am just a new hire, I had been practicing professionalism in the workplace since day one. My goal is to imbue the core values of Manulife and show it in my everyday life. I start this in small ways; for example; going to work on time. I believe that punctuality in the workplace is always taken for granted, when in fact it should not be. I make sure that I leave the house early and provide ample time for going to work, as I know that traffic is never an excuse for being late. Second, I treat everyone with respect, whatever the position and job role; who knows, there might be times you will need to interact with them.
