Positive Side Of Personality, Healthy, Athletic, Determined, And Personal

Decent Essays
Positive sides of my personality are: reliability, athletic, determined and personal. Being reliable is a big part of who I am, I like to be the person that people can come to and ask for help. Whenever someone asks something of me I’m usually more than likely to help with anything; for example, just last week my grandfather asked me if I could clean his gutters and the day after it was done. Growing up I’ve always been active and athletic, whether it was playing basketball with my dad, or running with my dog. During high school I was active in many sports, being involved in sports has given me a different mind-set to where I am very work oriented. I focus on what needs to be done and work to accomplish what I want done, in a timely manner. …show more content…
Why I’m so determined is, because I have always thought that there’s nothing that will take me to where I want to be in life, besides myself and what I do to make my desires a reality. Being personal is who I am, I like to know how people are, what they’re doing and care about their well-being. However, you could say that I can be nosey too, but in general I like to be personal with people and get to know them rather than just have pointless conversations that don’t go anywhere. The negatives of my personality are: decision making, self-confidence and stupidity. I am a very indecisive person when it comes to anything, because I’m passive to what others want. I put others needs over mine which can be good or bad; however, in my case it can become a negative quality. I have always struggled with self-confidence, which I figured out what started it from taking this class. Which was my parents’ divorce when I was at the age of 8, the age in where you develop self-confidence. I tend to put myself down to motivate myself to become better at anything I do, because of it I don’t take as many risks in life that I want …show more content…
One of the things that really wowed me was when we went over the developmental stages. When I figured out that self-confidence is developed when you’re at the age of 8-10, which was the time when my parents divorced. All I could think was “wow” how could they know that, but it was right I have never had much self-confidence, now I know why. My view about people has changed also, we went over how culture, economy and the environment can make people develop differently, which I thought was very interesting. This class also enlightened me on how the world can be a sick place from all the people with these disorders. From watching One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, it surprised me to how bad some of the treatments were to the patients. They went there for help; however, the ward was doing the opposite to them and making their disorders even worse. The controversial topic of lobotomy was also intriguing. I don’t know how a lobotomy is an O.K. thing to do to patients unless they are violent, yet I’d rather die than have to get a lobotomy. When people are looney, I thought that they’d always stay that way, but from seeing that there are many treatment options, people can

My favorite part about this class was the, Who am I websites. I enjoyed listening and learning about everybody's life. The two topics that resonated with me were Micro-aggression and the privilege statements. The statements made me realize that we take certain things that are so “normal” for granted. Simple privileges that I take for granted do not have to worry about where my next meal is coming from and that I press the handicapped button to open the door because it’s convenient. Like most of us college students that live on campus we have a meal plan but what about if you live off campus or simply aren’t in school at all? I never think about the individuals that aren’t in the same predicament as me.…

I would describe my personality as approachable, light hearted, and positive. I believe that, if asked, my colleagues and supervisor would say the same about me. I have found, in the past, that I work well in an individually driven environment; however, I can certainly be productive in a team based setting as well.…

The Keirsey Report asked good questions to really help me think about what kind of person I really am. I concentrated on the wording of the questions, as you went further along I felt I could see the flow of the questions. Then I realized the questions were not asking me the same thing just worded differently, each question was truly different. Each question really made me question the scenario, and try to place myself in such a scenario. I would ask my 16-year-old son, and my husband what they thought and several times we had same answers.…

The learning experience of Dr. Norward’s course, Generalist Social Welfare Practice, has allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills and feel more confident working with clients. I have faced many challenges and obstacles, but I have also learned a lot about myself as a student as well as a future social worker. This course has helped me to reignite my passion for activism, but also explore the sort of social work I wish to partake in such as becoming a broker for services. One of the biggest takeaways from the course was when I learned that social work should be seen as both a science and art, two areas that I am fascinated about. I also truly cherished the lecture of self care and have incorporated this into my daily life, but also with…

Techniques used on the mentally ill included insulin induced comas, lobotomies, malarial infections, and electroshock therapy (Dual Diagnosis). These types of treatment were effective for their time and some were cruel. “Some people didn 't seem to get better when they were under the guidance of the so-called talking cure,” (Dual Diagnosis). The talking cure involved communicating how the patient feels and has made its comeback in modern Psychology. “A lot of people, especially this one psychoanalyst guy they have here, keeps asking me if I’m going to apply myself when I go back to school next September,” (Salinger 213).…
