Planned Parenthood is a nationally recognized entity that provides “high quality, affordable health care for women, men, and young people” and is “the nation’s largest provider of sex education” (Planned Parenthood 2016). As its mission, Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual 's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being. We believe that reproductive self-determination must be voluntary and preserve the individual 's right to privacy. We further believe that such self-determination will contribute to an enhancement of the quality of life and strong family relationships (Planned Parenthood).

With an estimated 650 health centers nationwide, Planned Parenthood is integral in providing affordable healthcare for women throughout the United States. Planned Parenthood provides it services and outreach to nearly “five million women, men, and adolescents worldwide annually”(Planned Parenthood 2016). A population of 2.5 million women and men visit Planned Parenthood health centers for services and information, and of these patients, 84 percent are over the age of 20 (Planned Parenthood 2016).
