Planned Parenthood–an organization that supplies women, men, and teens high-quality, affordable healthcare. Many people just associate Planned Parenthood with abortions, but the majority of the healthcare that is provided at the centers is preventative, primary care that, “helps prevent unintended pregnancies through contraception, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections through testing and treatment, and screen for cervical and other cancers” ("Who We Are."). The organization also offers reproduction and sexual health education, and works with local organizations in Africa and Latin America to overcome the barriers of poverty and political or governmental issues that limit access to critical reproductive and sexual healthcare …show more content…
The video released by an anti-abortion group–the Center of Medical Process–left the impression that Nucatola is talking about Planned Parenthood affiliates selling fetal tissues from abortions for a profit. However, this edited and negligent video ignores the facts of what Nucatola actually said during the conversation. In the unedited version of the same video, Nucatola clearly states that, “‘Affiliates are not looking to make money by [selling fetal tissue]. They’re looking to serve their patients and just make it not impact their bottom line’” (Levitan). While the “sale” of organs, both adult and fetal, for transplantation is entirely illegal, the donation of tissue and the payment for the“reasonable” costs of the conducted procedure is legal, and that is what is occurring within Planned Parenthood. Therefore all allegations of illegal practices committed by Planned Parenthood are completely …show more content…
Furthermore, abortion services only make up 3% of Planned Parenthood’s total services provided: 327,653 abortion procedures out of 10.6 million services. To cut funding to an organization that provides essential healthcare people in the U.S. as well as over 1 million outside the country would have detrimental effects ("2013-2014 Annual Report."). As pointed out by democrats, “other health-care providers would be unable to absorb all of Planned Parenthood’s hundreds of thousands of patients” (DeBonis). Thus, the conservative Republican's presumptions that Planned Parenthood is all about abortions, and they therefore need to be defunded, are completely uneducated and ignorant of the

In “The War on Planned Parenthood,” Katrina Heuvel analyzes threats to reproductive health from a Republican-controlled government. Heuvel critiques Congressional leadership for polarizing rhetoric, the numerous committees investigating Planned Parenthood, and the smear campaign against Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. The organization annually provides cancer screenings, birth control, and STI testing to over 2.7 million Americans (78% of which are low-income), and Heuvel urges readers to fight for reproductive access. The article coherently argues for the preservation of Planned Parenthood, but the use of the Ad Hominem and hasty generalization fallacies undermines the author’s credibility.…

Planned Parenthood should not lose any funding or be shut down. Despite recent abortion controversies, Planned Parenthood should not be held responsible for pro-abortion advocates. The organization is pro-choice, and intends to give the choice back to the people in order to allow them to choose a better life for themselves. If Planned Parenthood loses its funding or gets shut down, people everywhere, but especially low-income families, will be put in a difficult standing in affordable health care and wellness. Furthermore, shutting down Planned Parenthood would put many people at a greater health risk than they have now, and worst yet, it will not end abortion.…

Women’s rights has been an issue in the United States since the early 1800’s and until all people are comfortable discussing the fact that in many parts of the world, women have no say in what they can do with their bodies or how it’s treated. A woman should be the only one who can decide what is best for her body. There is only so much that women can do when the one place that helps women with checkups and abortion based questions, Planned Parenthood, is being defunded or closed down. “The House of Representatives is expected to pass a budget reconciliation bill that guts the Affordable Care Act, pulls roughly $450 million in federal assistance from Planned Parenthood and prevents Medicaid recipients from getting reimbursed…
