Arguments Against Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood is well known for being a trusted health care provider in America. Since the 1960’s they have been a powerful voice for women’s rights. In July and August 2015, they took a major “hit.” The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a series of videos showing Planned Parenthood officials acquiring tissues from aborted fetuses and selling the tissues. David Daleiden, founder of CMP, produced the videos saying that they provided evidence of, “criminal conspiracy to make money off of aborted baby parts.” Planned Parenthood soon afterwards condemned these accusations by saying that the “tissue samples were legal donations made with consent from the patients and that there was no financial benefit for the tissue donation.”
These videos attracted nationwide media coverage and sparked multiple protests and an investigation by members of Congress. Though an earlier effort in the Senate failed to gather enough support, on September 18th, 2015 the House of Representatives passed the bill to defund Planned Parenthood. The videos provide evidence that Planned Parenthood has violated federal law by altering abortion procedures to facilitate procurement of organs requested by researchers; and obtaining money above reimbursement for the procurement of those organs. So by this petition getting signatures it is helping to stop trafficking in fetal body parts, and to do abortion procedures correct and not make money out of it because, what they are doing is illegal and no one is stopping them or saying…

According to the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), in 2017, only an astonishing 19.6% of Congress consists of women. Our statistic from CAWP leaves more than 80% exclusively to men, with limited understanding of the needs of women, which explains why the struggle to obtain affordable birth control is a continuous battle. Access to contraception has been a hot topic for a while with much opposition from companies and religious groups, with the most recent attempt to defund Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides many men and women with sex education as well as free or low-cost health services. Birth control is humane and a basic health right for women and a necessity for both partners, it reduces hospital bills, unsafe abortions and teen…

Many people are under the impression that Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue for profit (Chris Ostendorf). However, this is a gross misrepresentation of the ideas that Planned Parenthood embodies. Providing for men and women, Planned Parenthood is a diverse source of health care. Planned Parenthood was founded October 16, 1916 as a “nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services in the United States and internationally (Wikipedia).…

The most common, and vocal, rational GOP has for the federal government defunding Planned Parenthood is because they offer abortion services, which goes against their ethical beliefs; but in reality, Planned Parenthood actually prevents more abortions than it carries out. Out of the numerous services that Planned Parenthood offers the public, only three percent of all of their procedures are abortions; meaning that ninety-seven percent of everything they do is basic health care and other medical services. Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, lists the statistics in her article, Today, We Fight Back, “every year, 2.7 million people come through the doors of our health centers, a million people participate in our sex education…

It is not only unjust but also illegal as it is a form of murder. For such kind of actions to receive unprecedented support from Planned Parenthood is a major drawback to our society and must be rejected at all costs.…

Conflict theory also comes into play because the government is trying to defund the organization to prevent it from administering abortions. The government wants to keep the power in this situation. If they cannot prevent Planned Parenthood from funding abortions with private donations, then they are going to try to lessen its funds as a whole because they do not believe in its motives. Symbolic interactionism would highlight how Planned Parenthood could be a symbol.…

There is only so much that women can do when the one place that helps women with checkups and abortion based questions, Planned Parenthood, is being defunded or closed down. “The House of Representatives is expected to pass a budget reconciliation bill that guts the Affordable Care Act, pulls roughly $450 million in federal assistance from Planned Parenthood and prevents Medicaid recipients from getting reimbursed…
